Hinglish captions in Premiere Pro
The Captik panel docks in Premiere Pro, transcribes your sequence and puts Hinglish captions back on it in Roman letters. Hindi / Hinglish and Romanized are what it opens on.
The Captik panel opens inside Premiere Pro 2022 or newer. Its language list starts on Hindi / Hinglish and its Script list on Romanized (Hinglish), so a Hinglish sequence needs no settings at all: Hindi words come out in Roman letters and the English you say stays English.
- Install the panel from the plugin download page, then in Premiere open Window, Extensions, Captik.
- Click Sign in. A code appears and your browser opens; approve it there and the panel signs in by itself.
- Open your sequence. Leave Language on Hindi / Hinglish and Script on Romanized (Hinglish).
- Click Generate captions. The panel transcribes the sequence’s audio into word timed captions.
- Style: pick a template, colours, position and size. Tap a word to emphasise it, double tap to retype it.
- Send it to the timeline: Insert adds one caption graphic per line, Burn in renders a captioned clip into your project, and Add SRT captions puts a native caption track on the sequence.
What each way gives you in Premiere
| Insert | A caption graphic per line, words, font and colours editable in Essential Graphics |
| Burn in | Your clip with the captions drawn in, matching the panel’s preview |
| Transparent overlay | A ProRes 4444 .mov with alpha, for the track above your clip |
| Add SRT captions | A native caption track on the sequence, no render and no upload |
A template that one line of text cannot reproduce, such as a giant word with small rows around it, goes in as a burn in instead of a caption graphic. Each template’s page says how it comes in.
Which one to use
- You expect to change words late in the edit: Insert, or the SRT track
- The edit is locked and you want the exact look of the preview: Burn in
- You want the footage untouched underneath: the transparent overlay
- A long sequence: Add SRT captions, which never exports or uploads the video and uses no export minutes
Good to know
- Running Generate again transcribes again and throws away your word edits, so the panel asks twice before it does
- If the whole track runs a little early or late, the ±50 ms buttons shift every caption at once
- Devanagari instead of Roman letters: set Script to Native script before you click Generate
